WILBUR WRIGHT ELEMENTARY
SFA Architects, is working with the Ohio School Facilities Commission, Dayton Public School's administration, construction manager, staff, teachers and community for design and construction of a new 73,000 square foot, 473 student, Pre K-8 elementary school as a part of the District's on-going Facilities Master Plan. Designed to the most current OSFC standards for elementary schools, some of the amenities in this new facility include: a state of the art media center and computer lab, new administrative offices, new cafetorium and kitchen facilities, a 7,000 square foot gymnasium, new art and music spaces, more than 20 elementary classrooms, and up-to-date mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, security systems and technology. The design for the new school minimizes the ¡°traditional¡± circulation space included in the program of requirements by designing the plan around the central atrium and extended learning areas, thereby allowing maximum square footage to be allocated to these flexible learning spaces. The result of this centrally focused plan is a dynamic, three-story, multi-functional space, a true showpiece for the District, community, staff and students. The site was designed to meet the current OSFC standards for urban sites. Updated drives and traffic patterns, separate bus and car traffic access, additional visitor, staff and teacher parking, up-to-date play equipment and play areas were part of this project. |
