SUMMIT BEHAVIORAL HEALTHCARE - PHASE I OHIO DEPARTMENT OF MENTAL HEALTH The Summit Behavioral Healthcare Center is a 280-bed facility owned and operated by the Ohio Department of Mental Health in Cincinnati. SFA Architects provided architectural, engineering, planning, and interior design services for the program and master plan to "right-size" the campus for projected future needs. We developed a multi-phase master plan that strategically consolidated the original 98-acre site to an efficient 40-acre site that has numerous life-cycle cost considerations. This was done without lowering the capacity of the center while also programming strategic growth and upgrading the facilities. As an on-going series of projects, our office and the Ohio Department of Mental Health have striven to dramatically reinvent the image and improve the quality of institutionalized mental health care. From the beginning, our professionals placed an emphasis on replacing the stereotypical image of a dreary, forgotten and isolated facility with an image of diversity, activity and promotion of frequent and successful patient socialization. |
