This project is a renovation of a waterfront retreat house's main living area. Receiving limited use by the family, keeping the overall budget down was a key to the project as well as updating the severely outdated space. The redesign incorporates very minimal and subdued forms and subtle and calming colors. The fire place has been redesigned to strengthen it role as the architectural focal point of the room. A deeper connection to the exterior has been achieved by allowing the exterior to be the vibrant and expressive element and the in the interior the setting for its enjoyment. The overall color scheme used dark stained wood cabinets and dark leather couches to act as a contrasting visual element to an otherwise light pallet. New granite countertops and appliance were added in the kitchen area and a modern fan placed over the dining table. With simple design moves the space achieves a modern and restful feel.
