LEWIS PLACE MIAMI UNIVERSITY The original portions of Lewis Place Residence were constructed in the 1840's using a restrained Georgian style of construction. SFA Architects was hired to remove an existing narrow porch and replace it with a far larger insulated, heated and cooled "Sun Room". Extensive site measurements were made and pieces of original molding and trim were salvaged during the demolition phase. The new porch has a double stair, three sliding doors for ventilation and three symmetrically placed skylights to enhance the feeling of lightness. Trellises, drains and site plantings were carefully restored to their original conditions to provide a seamless integration into the existing building. |
